I have been teaching for 20 years with experience ranging from High School, Community College to the University level. I have a Masters in Agriculture Education and a Bachelors in Agriculture Science with a minor in Mathematics. I came to Elko in 1992 and have been teaching Math at Elko High School. I have been a Regional Math Teacher trainer for the State of Nevada and am involved in the Professional Learning Communities at the High School to improve student knowledge and scores in mathematics. I became involved with EIAA to welcome more options for educating the children of Elko County.

I have a BA from Hillsdale College with content area specialization in Spanish and Science. I began my teaching career in 200 in CA, and since then, I have taught children from preschool to high school and loved every minute of it. Along the road many changes have been made and in 2007 I decided that the most important thing in my life was to the #1 educator of my two girls and have learned as much as they have since then. I will continute to be an educator with the hope that all children deserve the ability to learn in an environment that allows them to thrive.

I graduated from Lewis and Clark Law School in May 1990, and began working for District Judge Jack B. Ames in January 1991. In March 2005, I became the coordinator for the Elko County Adult Drug Court under the supervision of District Judge Andrew J. Puccinelli. In September 2005, I co-authored a grant application for the Implementation of an Adult Drug Court Program. The Drug Court was awarded that grant in January 2006. In July 2008, I assumed the coordinating responsibilities for the Elko County Juvenile Drug Court as well.
I have been an Elko County resident for the past 18 years. In 1995, I married a local veterinarian and rancher and we currently live in Halleck, Nevada.
My biggest motivator in participating in this project is my set of 2½ year old twins.
EIAA GOVERNING BODY MEMBER RECRUITMENT
EIAA GOVERNING BODY ONLINE RESOURCES
EIAA's Governing Body is composed of dedicated community members with professional experience and expertise in organizational and financial management, administration, education, fund-raising, law, marketing, personnel managment, public relations, owning a business and parenting.
The Governing Body attempts to replace members so as not have a majority turnover in a year. The Board Development committee continuously accepts nominations and applications. The board currently would benefit from additional expertise in the following areas: business/ corporate, accounting, banking and trusts, investments, charter school law/regulations, government representative, architecture/engineer, and medicine.
The word “govern” derives from a Greek word meaning “to steer a ship."
"Governance is not about budget lines, personnel issues and field trip approvals. It is about values and vision and strategic leadership. The re-invention of the school board calls for a new paradigm, a fresh reconstruction of what the work of the board is to be.”
The ability of the charter school to carry out its mission and vision depend on the strength of its organizational foundation. A critical element of this foundation is the charter school board itself. The board carries the mission of the school into the community and brings the views of the community into the school.
